Termination Methods & Guardianship – Prerequisite 202
1 hour TN General CLE
Termination Methods and Guardianship: Voluntary termination, guardianship, elements of an action for involuntary termination of parental rights
Most terminations of parental rights, even those that start as a contest, end with voluntary termination or by default. Knowledge of the options for voluntary termination of parental rights, particularly when and how to use each, is necessary for all adoption cases, from the simplest to the most complex.
And there is more. The right guardianship can create a 500-pound gorilla. How does that work, and how do you get that for your clients? And if the necessary party won’t consent, what are the basic elements of an involuntary termination? These are not the toughest concepts you’ll encounter in adoption law school, but it is as important as anything. Dawn will explain it with her characteristic, clear, practical language and graphics.
