Grounds for Termination of Parental Rights: Abandonment Only
Abandonment is the big ground alleged in most involuntary termination of parental rights cases. For years, the legislative and judicial branches have wrangled over abandonment definitions and defenses, making it by far the most complex ground for termination of parental rights. Even figuring out how long it takes to abandon, and which particular months are considered, is not always easy. But there are cool little tricks and at least one hidden trap. In this class, we put on our thinking caps and really consider this important ground broken into small pieces, and with Dawn’s original graphic support, of course.
